St Albans CND in collaboration with other local groups is planning a commemorative event on Sunday 3 August 2014 to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War One and to remember the estimated 190 million war dead during the following 100 years.
CND members will begin the event adjacent to the war memorial near to St.Peters Church at 2.30pm, with laying of flowers at the memorial and a few words to start the event.

There will then be a silent procession, with placards on the toll or war since 1914 includeding the advent of nuclear weapons. The procession will be via St Peters Street, the Market Place, Waxhouse Gate to the Peace Pole in Sumpter Yard, near to the Cathedral. You would also be very welcome to join us in this procession or at the Peace Pole, where we will again lay some flowers in remembrance and have a range of speakers to commence at 3pm.
Given the conflict in the current world it is important we reflect on and remember of the tragic history of the last ten years.
