St Albans has a wonderful hotel (coaching inn) with over 600 years of history attached to it. Situated in Holywell Hill near St Albans Abbey, The White Hart offers good deals on accommodation, food and ghosts!
On Thursday 26th February 2009, you can treat yourself to a three course dinner in their cosy restaurant. Afterwards their resident ghost expert will talk you through the history of the hotel and then will take you on a guided tour of its ghostly areas.
You might see the little girl who died in a fire in the old building or perhaps whose neck was broken there You might hear the noises from the cellar where plague victims were kept. Hangings took place in the Minstrals’ Gallery so watch out there too…
Christian, the resident ghost guide, assured me that there is good food, a good ambience and he has received lots of positive feedback from last year’s event. He said ‘I like to give 50/50! Fifty percent of ghost stories mixed with fifty percent education on the history of the hotel.’
Christian continued ‘However, a few strange things have happened during the tours that even I didn’t expect!’ His voice sounded excited and slightly apprehensive when he said that!
Advice: Bring comfortable, flat shoes and a camera.
