Big Space
I am typing this up in Big Space, Harpenden. I have been here many times in the past but after a long absence, I am back again enjoying my latte, free WiFi and the scene of kids being as wild as they please!
Run by a local family, Big Space is a ten minute drive from St Albans. There are lots of seriously cosy sofas, a café with a big variety of hot drinks (even Maltesers Hot Chocolate), soft football area, wavy slide, drop slide (my kids’ favourite), climbing wall, chill-out room, kart track, toddler area and a play station/computer area for older kids and a climbing wall. Parents are welcome to join the kids in all these activities!
Mr Marvel entertains on Mondays and if you come on weekdays after school, it’s half price. Although there are a few similar places in the region, this one is my first choice because I admire the efficiency, friendliness and the fact that they have thought of everything that busy parents would wish for! Even award-winning coffee……….
Ps; BRING SOCKS

Waiting For Katherine (WFK) will be playing tomorrow night (5th Feb, 8pm) at the Horn! I have heard of this local band but I will finally get to see them in action this weekend!
WFK is a four piece band who plays ‘high-energy funfilled pop/rock/punk/indie or whatever takes their fancy!’ They won the Battle of the Bands 17 last year and it looks like they are in for a successful 2011.
Tickets for tomorrow’s performance cost £5 in advance or £6 at the door. The Horn is near St Albans station, on Victoria St. Contact 01727 853143 or www.thehorn.co.uk for tickets/map/times.
WFK has a fun, energetic, website with two free tune downloads www.wfk.moonfruit.com . Find them also on Facebook and Twitter.

“Mark my words, if we do not reach out to our neighbours and watch out for the vulnerable, we are all going to live with a fear of crime. I urge everybody to join their local Neighbourhood Watch and experience what it is like to be part of a massive community, such as ours.” This statement was made by Reg Law, a local St Albans resident.
Reg was presented with an ‘outstanding achievement’ award for his services to Neighbourhood Watch in 2009. He adds; “St Albans has a very good Neighbour Watch, working in partnership with St Albans Police.”
At this current time, when Police numbers are falling in the UK, we are advised to watch out for each other, not only to reduce crime, but to reduce the fear of crime. St Albans is divided into twenty wards each of which has a central coordinator, who liaises with residents and police. Neighbourhood Watch also partners with Herts Watch and St Albans City and District Council. So far, this community has a relatively low crime rate but over the New Year period, friends in our area have been burgled, hence this post!
