Don’t miss the M-Fest!

If you haven’t already heard, Marlborough School, St Albans, is set to hold it’s second Music Festival.  This ‘Glastonbury Spirit’ M-Fest will take place on Saturday July 16th from 3pm – 10.30pm and promises to be a great day out for everyone.

Live bands include WFK, Co-Jones and The Carolines, as well as Living the Dream Dance Performances and Workshops. Some of the talented students from Marlborough School will also be performing. A Pimms and Bar tent, football tournament, bouncy castle and BBQ are also laid on to be enjoyed by all.

Richard Noden, one of the organisers, says ’The money raised will be used to pay for a Radio Station at the school – another way to let people develop their creative side.’

It was said of last year’s successful Festival, that the community and school were brought together. With their new Radio Station on air, this will certainly be the case in the future!

Family tickets cost £25, Adult £10, Student £5.  All details and bookings available on  www.marlborough-school.co.uk

If you would like to enjoy something slightly differant next week, take a look at the following information on a local performance. This is by young people, for young people.

The Voice Within will be performed by Beaumont School and Marlborough College and explores the issues of bullying and other worries, through visual art, drama and dance. This project is being delivered by Living the Dream Performing  Arts Company and managed by St Albans District Council and Big Spend.

Melissa Canappelle says, “Groups have had the opportunity to work with Trestle masks, explore physicality, movement and characters and have thoroughly enjoyed it around the themes of bullying and dance pieces have been produced with participants already growing in confidence.  Some quotes have been recorded to make a soundtrack for a mask piece.  A dance piece has been created and participants have also have had a go at choreographing their own movements around the themes of bullying and growing stronger.”

This successful venture will be performed in Harpenden Public Halls on Friday 25th February at 8pm. More information from www.livingthedream.co.uk  or email Melissa.canappele@leisureconnection.co.uk  or Tel 01727827667

If anyone has spotted the legendary Chris Corbould wandering happily around the streets of St Albans this week, it’s because he has just been awarded an honorary Doctor of Arts degree, from the University of Hertfordshire.

Along with many others, Chris -the Special Effects Legend- has attended St Albans Cathedral for the awards ceremonies. His great talents in digital effects and stunts in films like James Bond, Superman and Batman, has inspired many young people.

In receiving his award, Chris thanked the University and advised the other students; “Soak up as much knowledge as you can.  Be like a sponge and it will come back and pay dividends.”
And Chris Corbould’s career success is living proof!
